O’s Notes: Manricks plays sax, flute and clarinet. He composed and produced these eight compositions and performs with Jacob Sacks (p), Ben Monder (g), Tyshawn Sorey (d) and Thomas Morgan (b). They enlist the support of a 40-piece chamber orchestra for two tracks as well notably “March and Combat” a formidable composition worth the price of the CD alone. Our other favorite is “Move” a dynamic piece that effectively marries Ben’s guitar and Jacám’s soprano sax. Manricks does a good job with this Labyrinth.
