O’s Notes: This is a soundscape that illustrates a vast natural canvas. From the deep soundstage of “Aurora” to subtle eeriness of “Courtrais” trumpeter Jon Hassell has inked a set of compositions that create a mood, draw a landscape and set the stage for his mood. Among the contributors are bassist Peter Freeman, Rick Cox (g) And Jan Bang who adds live sampling to all ten tracks. Our favorites are “Northline” and “Time And Place”. This is not for everyone but it is a provocative and creative piece of work that is soothing for those who engage.
