O’s Notes: Berkman (p) plays free jazz, maybe closer to fusion but no matter how the music is characterized, it’s fresh new and jazzy. He swings with complex rhythms and rich sax harmonies from Chris Cheek (tenor), Sam Newsome (soprano) and Dick Oatts (alto & flute), especially on “Creepy” and “Unchained Harmony”. The mood is slow and cool blue.
