O’s Notes: Sax player John Wojciechowski is a Chicago based musician who grew up in Detroit. He is also an educator and appears regularly on the Chicago jazz scene. This is his debut as a leader including nine original compositions. He selects a fine team to support him starting with drummer Dana Hall, Dave Miller (g), Ron Perrillo (p) and Dennis Carroll (b). We characterize the music as modern bop or fusion. John takes on the melodies with an abundance of energy putting large doses of passion into each passage. “Lion and the Lamb” is an example that also features Miller taking a chorus and mirroring Wojciechowski on the lead line. Dave is back again on “Pentatonic Tune” which also showcases Perrillo dashing across the keys. The pace is reduced for “Voice on the Wilderness” a fine ballad. Other highlights are “Duplicity” and the heavily syncopated “Push”. Lexicon is a daring start with a strong pulse.
