O’s Notes: We prefer live music because the musicians are generally more expressive in front of an audience, feeding off of their reactions and by the dynamics between themselves. Careful attention to the recording process, as with this set, makes it even better. Lift is a top-notch session starting with Potter who seems to have swallowed a high-energy pill before the night started. He is explosive this December night in NY during 2002. The rest of the band – Scott Cooley (b), Bill Stewart (d) and Kevin Hayes (p) is up to the challenge and equally engaging. There are four Potter originals, one written by Bill Stewart and a couple of covers. It’s all good!
