O’s Notes: Laurent has been inspired by some of the great French jazz pianists, Michel Petrucciani and Martial Solal. This is his first effort on Sunnyside and his second recording as a leader. He is not afraid to stretch out and take chances. This works well on compositions like “Round Trip” and “Cité Du Labyrinthe”. This is a blend of free fusion that has an open structure. The band is a quartet with Randolph Owens (b), Damion Reid (d) and Jerome Sabbagh (sax).
