O’s Notes: On Lines of Color, Ryan Truesdell conducts a large ensemble to play this set of Gil Evans masterpieces. While most of the songs were performed live by Evans, this is the first time they were recorded. The session was recorded live at New York’s Jazz Standard and the audio quality is exceptional. Wendy Gilles sings a warm version of “Can We Talk It Over” and also sings in one segment of the “Easy Living Medley”. Donny McCaslin (ts), Frank Kimbrough (p), Steve Wilson (cl, ss) and Marshall Gilkes (tb) are among the many fine soloists with strong contributions leading to an enjoyable session.
