O’s Notes: Violinist Meg Okura teams up with pianist Kevin Hayes for a very creative session that defies genre classification. They blend structure and spontaneity over fourteen selections. The core is Okura’s 7-piece Jewish suite “Seven Short Pieces”. There are also two collaborative free jazz selections, “Improvisations No. 1 & 2”. Hayes’s “Waltz For Wollesen”, and “Lingering” are two peaceful selections that offer a degree of contrast. Both musicians are comfortable exploring new territory. The duo gels well and their music comes together as one.
