O’s Notes: Live and Direct starts out hot and ‘in your face’ with “True”. While the pace slows a bit during the set, the intensity never wanes. Darren Barrett plays trumpet and leads his dbQuintet with Myron Walden (sax), Alexander Toth (b), Anthony Toth (d) and Takeshi Ohbayashi (p). Barrett also produced, arranged and composed all of the music but he is smart enough to share the stage with his team the results are laudable.
