O’s Notes: This is juicy blues and rhythm stated that way for the way it feels. You can feel the soul popping at Jack’s Bar in San Francisco. The beats are simple but every note has feeling and the band is well connected. Jackie (keyboards) plays with Ed Sturgis (sax), Chuck Garner (g) and Henry Lawrence Avery (d). They take popular standards and infuse a soulful blues feeling. “Saving All My Love For You”, “Green Onions” and “The Ghetto” are examples. This is head bobbing music. The only thing missing is the Bar-B-Q.
