O’s Notes: This is the first live recording of Bob’s Big Band. They picked an excellent venue in Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild. Most of the performances recorded there have been outstanding. The program consists of selections from their last six studio recordings mostly written by Mintzer. Special guest, Kurt Elling (vocals) further embellishes three of the tracks. We really enjoyed his work on “All Is Quiet”. The rich brass wraps around a tight rhythm section [Phil Markowitz (p), Rufus Reid (b) and John Riley (d)] giving us another strong performance.
