O’s Notes: These four musicians were elected best in their field in Switzerland. They are Franco Ambrosetti (t), Thierry Long (p), Heiri Kanzig (b) and Peter Schmidlin (d). They come together in grand fashion from the opener, “Autumn Leaves” featuring Ambrosetti with a taste of Miles. Franco is just as appealing when he switches to flugelhorn, pure sweetness on “My Foolish Heart”. The rhythm section is equally adept and by the time they wrap up on the upbeat bop of “If I Should Love You”, we are convinced of their prowess, winners wherever jazz enthusiasts reside!
