O’s Notes: Bassist McBride leads his band with Geoffrey Keezer (keyboards), Terreon Gully (d) and Ron Blak0e (sax, fl). They played 2 nights, 4 sets at The Tonic in New York. It is a live recording captured on 3 discs. The first captures the best takes of the CMB Band while discs 2 and 3 are the entire improvised sets of night 1 and 2. They are cooking with bop, extended into fusion and all strutting their stuff with no holds barred. Check out McBride’s intro on “Sonic Tonic”. It is funky cool and engaged the audience fully, a definite head-bobber. The free flowing improv discs add guest artists including Jason Moran (p), Charlie Hunter (g) and DJ Logic in an all out jam session that revolves around cuts like “Give It Up Or Turn It Loose” and “Bitches Brew”. You will rock for sure on this set.
