O’s Notes: From the introduction by Mr. Daws, we knew we were in for a warm performance. Beard comes at you live, up close and personal on this session. It was recorded at Oakland’s famous jazz spot, Yoshi’s in October 2007. Beard has a soulful swagger that surfaces in his smooth baritone lyrics. They are perfect for this dedication to Rawls. He does “The Girl From Panama” with a dose of grits and gravy and croons on God Bless The Child”. Among the classics are “Lady Love” and “Lou’s Medley”. We also liked “Nic’s Monologue”. They also some great support from Charles Mc Neal on sax.
