O’s Notes: Pianist and arranger Mike Longo assembles a fine team of jazz artists to form the New York State of the Art Jazz Ensemble. This brass-laden band is packed with energy. Producer Bob Magnuson (sax) does a fine job capturing the live session at the Gillespie Auditorium in New York July 23, 2013. The program includes eight songs including three Longo originals and featuring Ira Hawkins’ mellow baritone vocals on three selections that round out the set.
