O’s Notes: The time is 1959 and jazz is popping on the west coast. At the center of it is a young pianist named Dave Brubeck, taking the world by storm, and burning it up on Live From the Northwest, excerpts of live concerts recorded at the Multnomah Hotel in Portland, OR and Clark College in Vancouver, WA in early April. Dave is performing in a quartet with saxophonist Paul Desmond, bassist Eugene Wright and drummer Joe Morelllo. They were in their prime and displaying the prowess that made Brubeck a legend.
