O’s Notes: This excerpt of Ellington’s fine career catches him in Zurich during 1950. The band includes such standouts as Ray Nance (t, violin), Johnny Hodges (sax), Harry Carney (sax) and Don Bays (sax) who does a wonderful job on “How High the Moon”. Kay Davis also adds vocals on “Creole Love Call”. The program includes many of Duke’s best and a few covers. While the recording is a bit thin it does not veil the quality of the performance!
