O’s Notes: Trumpeter Woody Shaw gets together with a strong team including trombonist Steve Turre, Larry Willis (p), Stafford James (b) and Victor Lewis (d). It is a live session, the fourth in a great series featuring Woody’s characteristic voicing. He had influences from Miles and Dolphy but creates his own space. The support form the team works well over these five extended compositions, especially “Bye Bye Blackbird”.
