O’s Notes: Pianist Sumi Tonooka forms a trio with bassist Rufus Reid and the late Bob Braye (d). They form a cohesive unit gliding through many complex harmonies. Sumi wrote all of the music except her nifty arrangement of Cole Porter’s “All Of You”. There is a lot of depth in her music especially on reflective tunes like “Nami’s Song” and the title track. We also enjoyed the upbeat “Renewal” and “Be The Dance”. She excels as a composer and while this CD was recorded several years ago, it sounds fresh.
