O’s Notes: Shelly (b, keyboards) leads his band through eleven new compositions. They are mostly self-composed. The sound is a progressive fusion with Hugh Marsh (violin) reminding us of John Luc Ponty on “Mosque Morocco”. Mike Murley (sax) plays the melody on “Moses” while percussionist Waleed Abdulhmid takes center stage on “Ha Great Yeah” and “A Prayer For Africa”, two unusual but entertaining tracks. “Diabetes” is a bit more abstract while “Guardian Angel”, one of our favorites, has more structure. Berger’s approach keeps the listener engaged with the overall feeling being one of natural flowing sounds.
