O’s Notes: Pianist Jeff Colella and bassist Putter Smith are two veteran jazz masters who share a musical conversation with us on Lotus Blossom. The interactive ‘cat and mouse’ improvisation starts on “Desert Passes” and extends through the entire set. The program is a mix of freshly arranged standards with a couple of originals, one each from Putter and Jeff. “The Very Thought of You” “Gone Too Soon” and “All Blues” are standouts in this powerful duo session.
