O’s Notes: Phillip’s voice is dramatic; he breathes warmth into whatever he sings. He gives new life to such classics as “I Wish” and “Summertime” with his own fresh interpretations. The band is also tight including Nicholas Payton (t) and Ellis Marsalis (p). Already popular in New Orleans, this CD should take him to more widespread fame.
