O’s Notes: This time pianist Ted Howe dedicates himself to Love Song(s). He has selected works from the songbooks of Harold Arlen, Cole Porter and James Van Heusen to complement a few of his own compositions. While many of his arrangements are instrumental, they all speak of love and passion. The two vocalists are Laine Kazan, a well-known scene and stage artist (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) and Giacomo Gates who sports a rich baritone. Howe’s arrangements are fresh yet allows the listener to remember the lyrics. “Let’s Fall In Love” is a fine example of this. While it is nice to hear the words, we favored the instrumentals in this session.
