O’s Notes: Dena sings with all of the emotional bliss of great jazz singers, embellishing each note with drama. She takes us through a dozen newly arranged classics including “I Didn’t Know What Time It Was”, “Close Your Eyes” and “Birks Works”, that latter with some nice scatting. The rhythm section is anchored by Matt Wilson (d) and Peter Washington (b); with DeRose on piano. Complementary brass and vibes are there for extra flavor on a very good listening set.
