O’s Notes: Lucky Girl is a collection of warm mostly original compositions. They are contemporary ballads by vocalist and producer Jacqui Naylor. She varies the tempo and sings in front of a strong band. We liked the mild funk of “Sunshine and Rain” and the simple guitar accompaniment on “I Promise” reminding us of Cassandra Wilson. There is also a soulful cover of “Close the Door” and a swinging version of “The Surrey With The Fringe On Top”, a few of many highlights.
