O’s Notes: Sonny is of Indian descent and grew up listening to Indian music. He took up the drums, studied jazz at Rutgers and became a jazz ambassador leading workshops in Africa sponsored by the US State department. He has already accomplished quite a lot at 28 years old. He plays with Rez Abbasi (g), Steve Walsh (sax) and Gary Wang (b). Together they play an exciting set of nine tunes that are mostly jazz-fusion. It is a good outing that builds on you. We hope to hear more from Jain.
