O’s Notes: Japanese pianist Kayo Hiraki has been basking in the NYC Jazz scene since the 1990’s and has six CDs to her credit.“Manhattan Sunset“is her latest ambition with mostly original music an including a few covers. The core band is a trio with Patrick O’Leary (b) and Eric Halvorson (d) with a few guest artists enhancing the set. Kayo adds vocals on “Manhattan Sunset” & “My Melancholy. Baby”. Giuseppe Milici sweetens “June In Paris” and “Cafe Gitane” with harmonica melodies and guitarist Russell Malone takes the lead on “Komorebi”. We also enjoyed the free flowing groove of “Gorilla In Safari Hotel”.
