O’s Notes: Jazz saxophonist Virginia Mayhew takes on eight compositions of the legendary Mary Lou Williams. No doubt these are great selections further accentuated by her choice of accompaniment. Ed Cherry (g), Harvie S (b), Andy Watson (d) and special guest Wycliffe Gordon (tb) all share in the party as they swing cut by cut. They wrap up with a couple of Mayhew’s original blues based numbers, a fitting end to a strong session.
