O’s Notes: McCoy is one of the senior statesmen in jazz having played with Coltrane’s most popular quartet in the 1950s. He’s continued to evolve as a solo artist, a bandleader and this marks the debut of his own label! He adds Joe Lovano (sax), Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts (d) and Christian McBride (b) forming a strong quartet. They play seven of Tyner’s tunes in front of a live audience. They don’t miss a beat fueled by Watts intensity on “Mellow Minor” followed by Tyner and Lovano giving us a large sound on “Sauna Layuca”. They swing pretty hard on “Blues On The Corner” before McCoy closes out the set with a solo version of “For all we know”. This one is packed with energy (, feelings and intensity.
