O’s Notes: There’s a lot of 1960’s soul in this one as noted by the song titles, including Neckbones, Grits, and the Boogaloo. The music is along the same lines — with drummer Bernard Purdie keeping the beat tight. Dr. Lonnie Smith doubles up on organ with McGriff on the middle tracks as they rejuvenate true instrumental R&B with a couple of deep funky grooves to get you on the dance floor.
