O’s Notes: German drummer Mareike Wiening steps into the role of a bandleader with her debut Metropolis Paradise. She assembles a quintet with Rich Perry (t-sax), Dan Tepfer (p), Alex Goodman (g) and Johannes Felscher (b). Wiening’s compositions come together with inspirations from various cultures and languages across Europe and America as she traveled back and forth from Europe to New York over the past few years. The music covers a wide span from the peaceful vibe of “For A Good Day” and “Viewpoints” to the free spirited, spontaneous “2 In 1” and mellow “Relations”. Wiening is off to a good start!
