O’s Notes: Dave has a cool swagger that feels good across thirteen selections on Midlife Crisis, his latest release. He’s got an adult beverage in his hand on the CD cover but he seems to have a grip on life, certainly his crooning! Damiani fronts a powerful large ensemble that explodes when they need to and otherwise does an excellent job complimenting the story lines. Gary Matsumoto (p), Alex Frank (b) and Aaron McLendon (d) are a solid rhythm section that keeps things tight. The program is mostly newly arranged classics with a few originals. Highlights are “Nice ‘N’ Easy”, “I Thought About You”, and the title track.
