O’s Notes: Gates is a blues/jazz singer. He selected ten selections performed and/or written by Miles Davis and put his signature on them. Gates and pianist John Di Martino did the arrangements. They haven’t destroyed the originals but reintroduced them in yet another light and the picture is attractive. Dave Stryker (g), Freddie Hendrix (t), Lonnie Plaxico (b) and Vincent Ector (d) round out the vibrant band. Giacomo’s lyrics are rich with emotion whether he’ singing, scatting or letting the instruments sway. He is a storyteller and that makes the music sing!
