O’s Notes: Bassist Kent Miller leans more on the traditional side for“Minor Step, a compilation of both standards and originals. Saxophonist Benny Russell stands out on the ballads with warm melodies and he swings hard on tunes like “Dexterity”. Pianist Darius Scott (“Liberia”) and drummer Greg Holloway make their presence known throughout the set. They get a blues swagger going on “Brother Ray” while the title track, “T Sup Cuz” and “Sisters” really swing making this set a winner.
