O’s Notes: Jacky is going solo on Mirror with a mixture of classics and original tunes. But this is not the ordinary set. Just listen to his arrangement of Ellington’s “Caravan” where he’s not only striking the keys but adds percussive solos that are creative, complementary and add spice to the mix. He plays the notes in a very deliberate fashion on “Just A Gigolo” overstating the melody to make the tune more vivid and blazes through the changes on the title track. Jacky plays hot and cold on “Tragic Mulatto Blues” using dynamics to again add the emotions. His attention to detail brings the listener into the performance and makes this an exceptional performance.
