O’s Notes: John Ellis plays sax and leads a large ensemble that includes trombonist Alan Ferber behind vocalists Becca Stevens, Miles Griffith, Sachal Vasandani and Johnaye Kendrick. The music is by Ellis and libretto by Andy Bragen. This is a scintillating symphonic performance that is best appreciated in high fidelity to capture all of the nuances. The vocals range from sweet harmonies to raspy barking. Collectively MOBRO is a creative adventure.
