O’s Notes: Robin sings in front of a brassy big band. It is bright lights and all of the fanfare on “Abracadabra” as she soars, scats and sets the stage for an entertaining evening. The program has 11 songs that you’ve heard before buy they have a different appeal presented in this light. McKelle doesn’t hide behind the shadows of the large ensemble thankfully as she has the skills to complement them. Her voice commands presence and it is bathed by the strings on “I Want To Be Loved”. There is an abundance of drama on “Lover Man” and “Lullaby Of Birdland” that separate Robin from singers with pleasant voices. In addition to that, she let’s the emotions ring!
