Michael Whittaker, 2006, CD
Jazz Ruler Type: Fusion
O’s Notes: Michael (keyboards) adds a large dose of syncopated beats to his fusion compositions. It works especially well on “Afrofunk”, a tune that packs a lot of punch. Katisse Buckingham plays a strong flute lead on “Modern World” and Bob Wendel joins with his soprano sax on a mellower “Just Because”. But it is the funky tunes like “Ropa Vieja” that makes the session pop. You can even feel that spirit on the transformation of the traditional classic “Amen”, a fitting finale.
