O’s Notes: The Blue Note 7 is a band of seven Blue Note artists who have come together I’m celebration of the label’s 70th Anniversary. Nicholas Payton (t), Steve Wilson (sax), Ravi Coltrane (sax), Peter Bernstein (g), Bill Charlap (p), Peter Washington (b) and Lewis Nash (d) are all first call musicians that have played together in different bands but not in this configuration. They make a formidable statement with tasty syncopated selections like “Inner Urge”, one of eight selections. They also shine on mid tempo tunes like “Little B’s Poem” and ballads like “Idle Moments”. None of the music is new but the energetic arrangements are spot on and all executed flawlessly! The BN7 are touring as a band this year. Don’t miss them if they come to a club near by. You won’t be disappointed.
