O’s Notes: Blackwell was a legendary blues guitarist/singer most notably with pianist Leroy Carr in the 1925-1935 period. When Carr died in ’35, Scrapper stepped out of the limelight, rarely playing. This 1961 session was Scrapper’s first in over 20 years. The guitar is twangy with those good old songs and though all of the magic is not there, the spirit is certainly present.
