O’s Notes: This is another DVD featuring two episodes from Ad Lib, Phil Moore’s TV series from the early 1980s. The focal point is jazz vocalist Mark Murphy. He steps up to the microphone and immediately delivers a performance displaying his ability to scat, sing the lyrics and vocalese at a high level. He sings in front of a trio featuring Bill Mays (p), Monty Budwig (b) and Chiz Harris (d). Mark sings the first two tunes in each show before trumpeters Pete and Conte Candoli take the spotlight. They play the last three selections of each show including Russ Tompkins (p) and Joe Diorio (g) with Harris (d) and Marty on bass. The combinations make this a very good performance. Murphy is in rare form on Show #46!
