O’s Notes: This band of flutists is Ellen Burr (piccolo, alto & C), Jennifer Roth (piccolo, alto & C), Fawntice McCain (C) and leader Vinny Golia (Db, G & piccolos, alto, bass, contrabass & C). The recording is a part of the ‘Music For Like Instruments’ Series. Golia’s is one our favorites because the sound is light, natural, refreshing and fast. The layering of the flutes is well orchestrated and it is apparent that they are well rehearsed, having been together for over one year as a unit. There are fifteen songs of varying character with something to appease most palates.
