O’s Notes: Bassist Charnett Moffett invites an all star team to perform in multiple configurations on his latest release. Most of the music was captured live at the Jazz Standard in New York; at Jazz Alley in Seattle; at Marians Jazzroom in Bern, Switzerland; or in a live studio recording at New York’s Sear Sound. Charnett forms a trio with Cyrus Chestnut (p) and Victor Lewis (d) that sparkles on “Mood Indigo”. Guitarist Stanley Jordan comes alive on “So What” and “Mediterranean”. We also dug “Just Need Love” featuring the quartet with Jeff “Tain” Watts (d), Jordan, Chestnut and Moffett on fretless electronic bass.“Music From Our Soul“combines Moffett’s originals with fresh takes on some old classic jazz tunes infusing a bit of modern jazz-fusion to arrive at a very successful outing.
