O’s Notes: Karen’s voice is up front and center, clear, articulated cabaret style. It’s beautifully pure in duets with pianists Fred Hersch and Arturo O’Farrill on “Something to Live For” and “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” respectively. The feel is like a Broadway show but you’ll also appreciate the swinging jazzy numbers courtesy of the strong band. Oberlin stays with them all the way through over 15 standards shining on the ballads.
