O’s Notes: Singer, songwriter Dominique Fils-Aimé has earthy, rich vocals and accompaniment that is well-matched. Bassist and producer Jacques Roy does a fine job of keeping the sound stage clean, allowing musicians to decorate Dominique’s expressions. Elli Miller Maboungou (perc), Hichem Khalfa (t), and Shawn Mativetsky (tabla) add notable colorations. My World Is The Sun starts out with an inspirational song “Ma Mélodie” sung by Dominique’s mother Claudette Thomas, then the haunting “Sea of Clouds”. When the dust clears, we warmed up to “Echappée Belle”, “Life Remains”, and “The River”. We also liked Fils-Aimé’s take on “Ma Mélodie [outro]”.
