O’s Notes: Kenny Washington is the vocalist and Michael O’Neill plays sax and produced the album with bassist Dan Feiszli. New Beginnings is a collection of classics along with pianist Geoffrey Keezer’s “Creation of The Universe”. The music has an upbeat bounce and a definitive bebop feel whether Kenny is singing or scatting. They parallel the continuous recreation of the universe with references to the new changes in their own lives and bring it all together with the music. O’Neill shadows Kenny and steps out on several passages notably in smooth harmony with trumpeter Erik Jekabson on “Nomali”.
