O’s Notes: Puerto Rican guitarist, composer Gabriel Vicéns assembles an all-star band for Niebla, his fifth album. Roman Filiú (a-sax), Rick Rosato (b), E.J. Strickland (d), Victor Pablo (perc), and Vitor Gonçalves (p) fuel engine for this release. The songs have lots of air, allowing themes to slowly evolve, as the title (meaning fog) dissipates. We liked the syncopated title track, “Vejigante”, then as the sun peaks out, “Ramaje” and “Stray Dogs”.
