O’s Notes: Drummer, composer and bandleader Phil Haynes invites bassist Drew Gress and saxophonist David Liebman to join him on No Fast Food, his latest release. The recording is a 2-set concert, one on each of two discs. The music is mystifying with creativity expressed in sound variations, tone extraction and phrasing. The musicians feed off of each other bringing a sense of order to the collage of sound. Haynes’s music is free jazz absent of sometimes chaotic, in-cohesive madness. It is worth a listen and again.
