O’s Notes: This jazz fusion quintet is Chris Cheek (sax), Ferenc Nemeth (d), Leo Genovese (p), Massimo Biolcati (b) and leader Francisco on guitar. Pais wrote all nine compositions and they have gentle soothing tones, especially the combined melodies of guitar and sax on “Desert of Colors”. They produce a good set with Pais alternating between lead and support showcasing his entire quintet. It works best on tunes like “Gratitude”.
