O’s Notes: Bassist Joe Martin leads a quartet with Chris Potter (sax), Brad Mehldau on piano and drummer Marcus Gilmore. They play eight of Joe’s original compositions plus a cover of Jaco Pastorius’ “The Balloon Song”. The mood is generally dark. We liked the first track, “Semente” and the popping vibe of “In The Meantime”. There is excellent interplay between Potter and Mehldau especially on “Cache”. Perhaps the best of the set is “Once Before” a mellow, happy and energetic tune.
